The House of Combelle

one story, three generations

Nearly a hundred years ago, the Cantal region in the heart of France became the birthplace of the Combelle children’s furniture range. It began in 1926 with Marcel Combelle, who manufactured umbrella sticks using the celebrated bentwood technique. This unique wood bending know-how was passed from generation to generation until today. A part of the third generation, Gérard Combelle follows in his grandfather’s footsteps, with the same passion and enthusiasm. In 2015, The House of Combelle joins the Candide Baby Group, a french manufacturer specialized in baby products with his brands Candide, Tinéo and Latitude.

a know-how from the Cantal region

In the workshops of the company established by the Combelle family, these meaningful words stand proud and clear: “From the tree rises the form.” They sum up the love for our craft. In fact, all of our baby furniture is manufactured in solid beech, and comes from a harvest of trees over 80 years old that are carefully selected in the French region of Auvergne.

Combelle knew that it could be proud of its origins and unique know-how, long before the recent creation of the Industrial Recovery Ministry in France. In the last 80 years, we have been manufacturing baby furniture in the small town of Marmanhac, located in the upper valley of the Authre, up against the mountains of Cantal. Our products are sold mainly in France, as well as Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Northern Europe, Hong-Kong or Dubaï.

sustainable development

“In the Cantal, nature loves babies!” Combelle is committed to preserve the environment and to act in a responsible way toward forests. The beech wood we use to manufacture our baby furniture directly comes from the Cantal and its neighbouring regions. Our forest management is consistent with the principles of ecological balance.

superior quality products

Items made by Combelle fall into the premium category of children’s furniture. They capture the essence of childhood combined with a long-established craftsmanship, meticulous work and ancestral values that are the core of our identity.

design and modernity

For Combelle, tradition does not mean “tradionalism.” Our teams are committed to offering new products, new prints and new colours. Since its inception in 1926, Combelle has continually looked out for innovations. Our know-how, our attention to detail, and our desire for children’s well-being and safety makes us a leader in traditional wood furniture design, appreciated both for our innovative style and our fashionable colours. The last Combelle innovation: bicoloured chairs in solid beech, a unique product on the wooden baby furniture market.
